Welcome to Intrinsic

The Reality of Reherniation
Ruptures of the anulus, the outer wall of the intervertebral disc in the spine, can result in disc herniations and related pain including sciatica. While patients frequently experience significant pain relief immediately following surgical discectomy, these ruptures are commonly left open. This contributes to recurrent sciatica from reherniation which has been reported in up to 12.5% of patients;1,2 and is particularly common in patients with larger anular defects. Further, disc height loss following discectomy has been reported in 98%³ of patients and has been linked to accelerated degeneration and increasing low back pain.

Our Focus
Intrinsic is dedicated to providing products that enable direct reconstruction of weakened or ruptured anulus. Anular reconstruction offers the potential for secure closure of anular ruptures and a reduction in both the risk of recurrent disc herniation and disc height loss. Intrinsic’s Barricaid Prosthesis provides the added security of bone-anchored reconstruction that can be used to reconstruct larger regions of the anulus or in cases where anular integrity is in question.
